π’οΈ THE BIG STORY: Brent Crude Below $73 β Down 42% from War Peak
This is the most important macro development of the day. Brent crude slipped below $73/barrel for the first time since February 27, 2026. At its war-peak on April 30, Brent hit $126/barrel. Todayβs price represents a 42% collapse in 56 days β driven by:
- Strait of Hormuz resuming tanker movement after US-Iran ceasefire accord
- Global risk premium unwinding as Iran war fades
- OPEC+ spare capacity signaling
- Demand concerns from weak monsoon in India and global growth worries
India benefit: For every $1 fall in crude, India saves approximately βΉ10,000 crore annually on its import bill. A $53 drop from $126 to $73 = potential savings of ~βΉ5.3 lakh crore annualized β the single biggest positive macro shock for the Indian economy in years.
