US Approves Sale of Advanced Equipment to India
The United States has recently approved a substantial $1.17 billion (~Rs. 9800 crore) sale of advanced equipment for MH-60R Seahawk helicopters to India. This decision marks a significant step in enhancing India’s anti-submarine warfare and maritime capabilities. By integrating this advanced technology, India aims to bolster its naval operations, particularly in the strategically vital Indo-Pacific region.
Modernisation of India’s Defence Forces
This deal aligns seamlessly with India’s ongoing defence modernisation efforts. The equipment package includes cutting-edge communication systems, advanced sensors, and mission-critical systems, which are set to play a pivotal role in improving operational efficiency. The MH-60Rs, which are already a part of the Indian Navy’s arsenal, are engineered to handle both conventional and asymmetric threats effectively.
Advancements in Surveillance Capabilities
In addition to the helicopter deal, significant strides have also been made in India’s surveillance capabilities. Adani Defence and Aerospace has delivered its second Drishti-10 Starliner surveillance drone to the Indian Navy. This advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform boasts impressive features, including a remarkable 36 hours of endurance and a payload capacity of 450 kg. Such advancements further enhance the Indian Navy’s operational readiness and its ability to monitor maritime activities effectively.
